Haha, they EXPECT they will have more info out. Just like how they expect last year to bring a new website design, an open beta, etc, etc.

Don't hold your breath.

more info later this year? o.O I was hoping for more info on the 28th, I'm guessing that means no beta in 2009.

GROSS SALES does not equal to INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS, so, they can change the books any way they want to but they do not have 5 million customers.
Notice that I never said 5 million active players, and neither did ANET. Once you buy a key/game for GW you are a customer whether you play or not. WoW claims to have 11 million customers, they are correct but many of those customers don't actively play.

In addition you said you bought three different games and from what I understand you think that those three games equal three separate accounts. I don't think that is the case. You buy one game, set up an account, and every other game you add to that account still equals one account.

So ANET is still correct in saying that they have 5 million (now 6 million) accounts made for GW, whether they are active or not isn't the issue.

I really think that the silence about GW2 is more of a decision from NCsoft because they want to peddle their next big title AION.

The keyword is 'amongst'. The statement isn't excluding PvE players, just acknowledging that people who regularly PvP are among the game's more dedicated players. They same can be said of people who regularly PvE, but I'm willing to bet there are a larger proportion of PvEers who don't play regularly but still play (while PvPers are probably more likely to not play at all if not playing regularly, especially at the high end of the game).

Damn what a letdown. They are still sticking to their guns -- no new info, nothing/nada/zilch. When will the trickle begin? Apparently by the end of the year, but that is 7.5 months away and may easily be pushed back. Seems like one of those situations where you ask a friend if they are ready to go somewhere, and they say in 15 minutes, then in 15 minutes they say in 10 minutes.

When Anet was Officially Announcing the milestones of 3 million, 4 million, 5 million it was always about product units sold. But now they changed it all into accounts created, how hilarious what wonders can marketing do these days. Changing history. Bit Blizz does the same with WoW numbers, they're all active accounts there.

Edit: GW2 info this year - maybe they'll tell us about 2 professions and show 3 concept arts as an Xmas gift

The issue here is that to even be a customer of WoW, active or not, you HAVE to pay the monthly fee, so you're going to be obligated to play to some degree because they're collecting money all the time from you.

With anet you don't have to pay at all and for better or worse there's no reason for most people who have played for a long time to continue with stale gameplay.

AION, btw, is looking pretty good.

And, surprisingly, the article has got me looking at EVE. I've heard it's a grindfest, but looks beautiful, and player reviews are mostly good.
As a player of EVE - it is only a grind fest if you want it to be. the "grinding of the game comes from the mining and standings(you have to run missions to raise standing w/ NPC corps and factions) & even that is totally optional as the standings are only for special items(drops are not a huge focus in the game, the market is) and the ability to hang a player owned station in high/low-sec(there are areas known as 0.0 sec, these areas are owned and controlled by player alliances, not NPCs and thus standing grinding is not necessary at all). Mining you only do if your toon is production focused. Otherwise, character dev is entirely time-based(you read books to learn skills AND those skills train even if you're offline allowing for someone like me to take a break while my skill trains).

Our Live team recently moved from a monthly schedule to one that focuses instead on doing 3-4 large updates a year. This gives us the chance to deliver some really meaty updates in terms of both content and functionality. You'll see the first on of these delivered this April for our fourth anniversary.
Cool. Large meaty updates 3-4 times a year from now on! in terms of both content and functionality... Sounds exciting Wonder what we're going to see in another 3-4 months from now. And the resulting threads
